105 Days of Glory – Kollaa will hold

On 6.12.2010 by Antti Lepistö

Battles of Kollaa started 7th of December in 1939 and lasted all the way to the end of the war. Being outnumbered by five to one in troops, Finnish forces were in a constant brink of collapse. During the battles, a Major General visited the front lines and asked a Lieutant “Will Kollaa hold?” to which the Lieutant replied “It will, if orders are not to run away.”. Phrase Kollaa kestää, “Kollaa will hold”, is a manifestation of Finnish perseverance and determination even in the gloomiest of situations.

Happy independence day.
